When we engage in the realms of Conscious Kink, there’s another layer of intentionality and care, where communication, attunement and aftercare become paramount to support opening to a wider field of experience and more satisfaction. Shamanic Kink is built on the foundation of Conscious Kink, where a trauma-informed model, community & ritual, deep inquiry, and working with inner aspects enhance the potential to truly tend to the healing, desires and expression of Life force that many parts of crave, but may be unable to access because of wounding. In Shamanic Kink, the Dominant is often called the Divine Dominant or Guide. A Divine Dominant is competent, confident and holds authority. In order to show up to not just the excitement or even ecstasy available in the realms of BDSM and scene play, but also to the inevitable moment when wounds or even trauma will be hit, as a guide it’s necessary to know many aspects of ourselves and to engage in our own work. As we commit to showing up to all the emotions, learn to feel and attune deeply, stay grounded, and breathe with our entire experience and the processes of life, we may also learn to offer that to others. The deeper we are engaged in our own journey, the larger the permission field we can offer for someone else’s expression. This will allow us to hold an ever stronger container for a person we journey with, inside or outside of a scene. Apart from that, learned skills, reference points and experience - as a guide as well as a receiver - are just as necessary and invaluable.
